Lahori daal is a simple to prepare daal yet its very rich in flavors. This Lahori daal recipe is originated from Lahore, a city of Punjab Pakistan. Daal is made with sabut masoor dal or whole brown lentil. In spite of being a whole lentil it is easier to cook compared to channa dal or mash daal. You can easily call it Pakistani recipe of sabut masoor dal. This recipe takes a simple thing like masoor daal to the next level. An easy to prepare step by step recipe of sabut masoor dal in Urdu and Hindi that you will enjoy.
Wash dal and soak it for 15 minutes.
Drain the water and add dal in a cooking pot.
Add 2-3 cups of water (or as required) to cook daal along with turmeric, salt and garlic paste.
Give a boil to dal and then partially cover the pot.
Cook dal on low flame for 20-25 minutes or till it gets completely tender.
Uncover the pot and add milk, red chili powder, garam masala in dal. Cook again for 4-5 minutes on medium flame.
Now prepare tadka for dal. In a frying pan add cooking oil, butter and heat these on low flame.
Add chopped onion in it and fry till the onion turn translucent.
Add cumin seeds and garlic paste, cook for 30 seconds.
Add green chilies along with button red chilies (you can skip the red chilies) and cook for 1 minute.
Pour tadka in lentil and cover the pot for few seconds to lock the aroma in daal.
Uncover the pot give a stir and our lahori masoor dal is ready.
Squeeze lemon and serve.
