Homemade hot chocolate is a dreamy treat on a cold day. Hot chocolate is basically like drinking a melted candy bar and there's nothing like a rich cup of hot chocolate on a cold day. Be it winter or a cold rainy day, you can start your day with this perfectly simple drink.
Making hot chocolate on the stove can feel like a lot of work, especially when you're living in a dorm room with no stove top. Thankfully, making hot chocolate in the microwave is just easy and delicious. You may also call it hot cocoa for one. Hot chocolate is a classic comfort drink, but many recipes are complicated or call for ingredients that are not available in the pantry on a regular basis. This dorm room hot chocolate recipe is easy and uses ingredients you probably already have on hand. Using cocoa powder instead of chocolate allows you to control the sweetness of the drink, and will give a deeper, richer flavor. It's easy to make just one cup or as many as needed because this is a microwave hot chocolate recipe.
In addition to being a quick way to make your own hot chocolate, microwave hot chocolate won't run the risk of "splits" or separating, which is a possibility on the stove. You can bring your microwave hot chocolate to exactly the temperature you want without worrying about burning the bottom of the pot. As a bonus, there's only one dish to clean.
In a microwave safe mug stir together granulated sugar, salt, ground cinnamon, cocoa powder and 2 tablespoon of milk until well combined. (If the cocoa powder and sugar are not dissolved at this stage that's perfectly fine).
Add in remaining milk and combine well.
Microwave it for 30 seconds, then take out and stir it.
Put it back in the microwave for another 1 minute 30 seconds or 2 minutes.
Your dorm room hot chocolate is ready, drink it as it is or top it with some mini marshmallows, whipping cream followed by chocolate chips.
