Hot and sour soup as reflected from name is a soup from Asia, combination of spicy and sour flavors. In many areas of the world it is made with pork, mushrooms, tofu, bamboo sticks and egg. But here in Pakistan we change the ingredients as per availability and cultural requirements. With spicy and tangy flavor the bowl of this soup is ultimate comfort in the winter season. The recipe that I am going to share today of this chicken hot n sour soup is the best as it can be easily prepared in 30 minutes. In the winter season when we always require something hot and comforting this soup can be easily served as main or side dish. Again this recipe is with a touch of Pakistani style hot and sour soup and I am sure you will love it.



  1. In a mixing bowl add black pepper powder, white pepper powder, chicken powder. Add little water and mix these spices in it, Keep these aside (We make this paste before adding it in the soup as these can develop lumps if directly added in soup water).

  2. In a big pot add cooking oil and chicken cut in small cubes.

  3. Also add ginger garlic paste in the chicken. Cook the chicken for 2-3 minutes on medium flame.

  4. Then add 6-8 cups of water in the chicken along with already prepared spice mix.

  5. Also add salt and give a mix to everything.

  6. Cover the pot and let the chicken cook for 15 minutes at medium flame.

  7. Now in a mixing bowl add corn flour and combine it with some water to make slurry. Keep it aside.

  8. After 15 minutes uncover the pot, give a mix and then add all Julian cut vegetables in it. Taste the broth and adjust the salt at this stage.

  9. Cover the pot for 1 minute and then add corn flour slurry gradually in the broth. Check the thickness of this soup and add as required. Stir the soup continuously while adding the corn flour slurry.

  10. Cook for 1 minute more so that corn flour should be cooked well in the soup.

  11. Slowly add the beaten egg in the soup and stir continuously. Mix the egg evenly in the soup.

  12. Add chili sauce, soy sauce, vinegar in the soup and mix well.

  13. Our yummy 30 minutes restaurant style hot and sour soup is ready.

  14. ____________ Tips: You can add vegetables of your choice in the soup but these are the vegetables that are usually used in restaurants.

  15. You may add chicken cube instead of chicken powder if you cannot find it in your area.

  16. If you are adding 8 cups of water adjust the quantity of spices in accordance with it.

  17. Green onion is an essential part of this soup but as it was not available at me so I skipped it.

  18. If you want to eat more tangy and spicy, chop some of green chilies and soak in some vinegar for few minutes. Add these spicy and tangy green chilies in your soup.
