Custard trifle is one of the easiest dessert to put up especially for get togethers and parties. Custard trifle is a delectable creamy delight prepared with a thick cream of custard, added with sponge cake or fruit cake in some variants and then assorted with fruits. Basically trifle is an English pudding also called fruit custard or fruit trifle with layers of sponge cake and thick creamy custard, fruits, jelly and whipping cream. The layers are usually arranged in a big trifle bowl or pudding dish. Traditionally vanilla sponge cake and vanilla custard are used for making trifle but now a days people also make chocolate trifle, black forest trifle depending on the availability and preference of ingredients.
This is simple and basic recipe of classic vanilla custard trifle and a lot can be added in it as per your own choice. Also this is a no eggs fruit custard trifle recipe. Serve it to your guests and receive a lot of appreciation.
As per the instructions on the packet prepare the jellies and let them cool.
When the jellies came into proper shape cut them in cubes and keep aside.
Dissolve custard powder in room temperature milk first, keep it aside.
Then take a pan and add milk in it, let it boil.
Add sugar in it and let it dissolve completely.
Now slowly add custard powder milk that we already prepared, Stir it continuously so that lumps should not be formed.
Let it cook for 1-2 minutes and whisk continuously so that custard mixture should be thickened a bit. Remember do not thick the custard too much, it should be of runny consistency.
Take away from stove and let it cool down completely.
Now in serving bowl add first layer of fruit cake, pour about 2 tablespoon of cocktail syrup on the cake so that it become juicy.
Then add a good layer of custard.
Add fruit cocktail or chopped fresh fruits over custard.
Then add jelly and sprinkle some almonds.
Repeat the process of layering and make 2-3 layers at least.
Easy and delicious custard trifle is ready, serve it chill.
