Chicken and black eyed peas curry or chicken lobia is a famous Punjabi recipe that is healthy and delicious made using onion and tomato paste and few spices. White eyes beans or a certain type of bean which has little oval structure with black eye on it. It can be added to a number of cuisines starting from salad to chicken or any type of meat. There are so many names of it like black eyed peas, black eyed beans, white lobia or lobia, highly nutritious and associated with many health benefits. Today's recipe of chicken and lobia masala curry is perfect when enjoyed with basmati rice.

  1. In a wok add cooking oil and heat on medium oil.

  2. Add sliced onion and fry till the onions turn golden brown.

  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook till the tomatoes are cooked and turn soft.

  4. Take the cooked onion and tomatoes in a bowl and blend well. Set this paste aside.

  5. In the same wok add cooking oil and ginger garlic paste. Fry it for few seconds.

  6. Then add chicken, fry the chicken till it changes color.

  7. Now add turmeric powder, cumin seeds, garam masala powder, salt and red chili powder, Mix everything well and cook the chicken along with all these spices for another 2-3 minutes.

  8. Add blended onion and tomato paste and combine well with chicken.

  9. Also add green chilies and water (or chicken stock), mix these well.

  10. Cover the wok and let the chicken cook for 4-5 minutes on low flame.

  11. After the time give a mix to the chicken again and add boiled black eyed beans (lobia) in it, mix it well.

  12. Finally add slit green chilies, dried fenugreek leaves (qasuri meethi) and garam masala powder, cover the pot again and put it on simmer for 2-3 minutes.

  13. Black eyed beans with chicken are ready to serve with rice or roti.
