Here I am sharing with you the widely popular stovetop chicken and rice recipe with a twist. It's an instant pot chicken and rice recipe, one pot 30 minutes dinner and a dorm friendly recipe. The rice is cheesy and flavorful, the chicken is super tender and the whole dish comes out effortlessly. Mainly this recipe has a garlic secret in it and you will fall in love with it. Th texture of this instant pot chicken and rice is like a risotto but does not require tiring stirring for 30 minutes. The recipe calls for simple ingredient that can easily be available in the dorms as well and the flavor of this chicken and rice is truly memorable.

  1. Set your instant pot to saute on high heat.

  2. Add cooking oil, butter, diced onion, carrots and salt. Saute these for 5 minutes.

  3. Add chicken pieces and saute for 5 minutes more.

  4. Now pour the chicken broth in it along with washed rice, give a stir. (if you want to avoid the burn notice from instant pot make sure to stir the rice together before turning on the pot).

  5. Place halved garlic head over the chicken and rice mixture with the head cut side down to the pot.

  6. Cover the lid of instant pot, set the lever to seal position. Cook the chicken and rice on manual high pressure for 10 minutes.

  7. Release the pressure of the pot after 10 minutes with manual pressure release other wise the rice will become mushy.

  8. Finally add shredded parmesan cheese in the rice, give a quick stir.

  9. Dorm friendly instant pot chicken and rice are ready to enjoy.

  10. _______ Note: When manually releasing pressure wear oven mitt and keep your face away from steam vent.

  11. You can reduce the quantity of recipe according to your needs. With this much of quantity 4 persons can have it as whole meal and 8 persons can have it as a side meal.
