There are so many names associated with Swiss roll like jelly roll, roll cake, roulade or Swiss log. You can say that a Swiss roll is soft cake made by rolling a sponge cake around a filling of some kind. Making a Swiss roll cake looks difficult as it requires technique but here I am sharing with you a dorm friendly Swiss roll cake recipe in sandwich maker. In dorms where one can have small space and only few gadgets to use it is a bit difficult to prepare desired food whenever you crave. I always tried to give easy and hassle free recipes for college students. This eggless dorm friendly cake is easy to whip up and can be baked easily in sandwich maker. An easy no oven sandwich maker cake for begginers.
In a mixing bowl add powdered sugar and butter. Beat well till it comes to a smooth consistency.
Sift all purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt in the butter and sugar mixture, Combine well.
Add vanilla essence and lemon juice in the mixture, mix well.
The batter will be stiff so gradually add milk and continue combining it in the batter. We need a smooth ribbon texture batter.
Take out 1/4 cup of the cake batter in another small bowl, add red food color in it and combine well.
Place the grill plates in the sandwich maker, heat it and grease both the plates with cooking spray.
Pour red cake batter in your desired pattern on the greased grill plate. Let this cook for few seconds.
When the red batter became firm pour white batter and spread it evenly.Do not add too much batter as the cake will became thick and will be difficult to roll.
Cover the lid of the sandwich maker, let the cake cook for 5-6 minutes.
After the time switch off the sandwich maker, open the lid and check the cake by inserting a toothpick in the center. If it comes out clean the cake is perfectly cooked.
Carefully remove the grill plate from sandwich maker and place it on a kitchen towel as it will be hot.
Demould the cake carefully on the kitchen towel or butter paper.
Flip the cake again so that pattern side of cake should be below. Carefully roll the cake with the kitchen towel. Leave the cake for 2-3 minutes in this roll shape.
Meanwhile beat the jam to make it smooth.
Unroll the cake after the time and spread jam over this cake sheet.
